The Oleszkiewicz Project uses data from publicly-available sources and from sources voluntarily supplied by family members. In a perfect world, the data collected would be publicly available in its entirety for all to read. Unfortunately, in the world we live in, privacy and identity theft concerns need to be addressed. Information can be used to wreck havoc on an individual's financial and personal life and the provider of the information, (me) could be held legally liable for damages. Web servers and the scripts that run on them are notoriously hackable. I am not perfect either, and I can not constantly monitor the web for security updates for the software that I run on my website. Therefore, any personal information put on this website runs a risk of being exposed. To account for these problems, I will remove any known living individuals or possibly living individuals from the data posted on my website. I will still record information on living or possibly living individuals on my personal computer, but this information will not be made public. Information on the deceased will be available to the public. If no date of death is known, it is assumed that individuals born 105 years ago or more are deceased. However, if I receive a request to take down personal information by the owner of that information or a relative of that person, I will honor the request. I hope this privacy system will help the Oleszkiewicz Project rather than hurt it. Personal data must be protected, but there would be no project without some level of personal data. This privacy policy is a compromise of security and convenience (heavily weighted towards security). But, as I mentioned before, I am not perfect. If you have suggestions on how to adjust or enhance this policy, please e-mail me at john@oleszkiewicz.net. Back to the Project Website |
